I know they shared album producers and a girlfriend, but there is really no reason to compare Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins if your goal is just to select a “winner.” Nirvana recorded their debut single before the Smashing Pumpkins even played a show. Nirvana completed a tour of
Nirvana’s music does not stand the test of time. But the Smashing Pumpkins does. So ultimately Billy Corgan won out against Kurt Cobain. Nirvana was hugely popular but I never listen to it anymore. I find Smashing Pumpkins more musical and listenable. Mellon Collie and the
I like Smashing Pumpkins but this dude has it backwards Nirvana is 100% the band that is timeless Also like Kurt sounds just like the album and Billy sounds like an abomination An advice to anyone going see them live. Don’t. It will ruin the music for you

Personally I think Smashing Pumpkins clears Nirvana easily. Siamese Dream is still still such a great record, holds up very well today.
I prefer Nirvana to Smashing Pumpkins. But, also, Creed better than both? Thoughts?
Respect the opinion but Nirvanas music is much more elaborate and emotionally driven. Smashing pumpkins too 2D for me. Sounds like every other mid band that capitalized on Nirvana paving the way, which is why Kurt Cobain is a household name while Billy Corgan is a bit forgotten.
