I've seen a lot of people in the US talk about community today. But very few knows what that means. Community isn't just you and your friends. It includes disabled people and other marginalized groups. It's masking and taking precautions to protect others. It's caring for others!
I'm tired of the "if we deport undocumented people, who's going to work in the fields, or clean our homes, or wash our dishes" narrative. These are actual living, breathing people with families and lives we're talking about, they're not just a source of labor.

I have a friend in Orlando that works for Disney. She said she can’t leave until the park closes and they won’t close until the hurricane is there. It might be too late by the time they close for her to get out. Disney needs to do better. Employers need to do better.
I am always so worried about people too poor to evacuate from disasters, and about workers being told to report to work regardless of their safety. What a nightmare
Hurricane Milton has grown at an astronomical rate into a Category 5 storm. Workers are already sharing stories of bosses putting them in danger ahead of Milton's landfall. Workers died during Hurricane Helene because they weren't given time to evacuate. This must stop.
Less: scolding people for making bold demands from their government. More: scolding the government for making impossible demands from the people.
Can't believe we're even saying this but the City of Asheville Public Housing Authority is forcing residents to pay rent for the month of October—right after historic climate devastation leaving many with nothing.
