It’s heartbreaking to think how many of the buildings in this 1910 photo—once lining Bourke Street with such intricate facades & proud Victorian detail—have been lost. Each demolition erased layers of stories, its rhythm & charm. Today we feel the absence of the city’s character.

DAY 1 ... Almost 7 years in the city, this chapter in my exciting life has come to an end, as I swap Marvellous #Melbourne for Marvellous Sunshine Coast, #Australia
DAY 2 .. Unique to #Melbourne, @FedSquare opened on 26 Oct 2002. The main square is paved in 470,000 ochre-coloured sandstone blocks from Western #Australia. Fearless Girl was unveiled on 8 Mar 2019, a symbol of gender equality and female empowerment.
DAY 3 ... coffee and quirky laneways - both #Melbourne staples that define the city and ingrained in its culture #Australia
DAY 4 ... The National Gallery of Victoria @NGVMelbourne - founded in 1861, it is Australia's oldest, largest and most visited art museum. #Australia #Melbourne #art
DAY 5 The Old Treasury building - where I was married to the best man on earth. The building was built between 1858 and 1862 - it hosts the original gold vaults where gold bullion was stored during the gold rush era ... #Melbourne #Australia @OldTreasuryMelb
DAY 6 .. The Shrine of Remembrance was formally dedicated on 11 Nov 1934 by the Duke of Gloucester, witnessed by a crowd of over 300,000 people, and, according to Carl Bridge, the "largest crowd ever to assemble in #Australia to that date" #Melbourne
Day 7 ... The Royal Arcade - opened in 1870, it is the oldest surviving arcade in #Australia, known for its elegant light-filled interior, and the large carved mythic figures of Gog and Magog flanking the southern entry. #Melbourne
Day 8 ... The Royal Botanical Gardens #Melbourne - founded in 1846 when land was reserved on the south side of the Yarra River for a new botanic garden. It extends across 38 hectares (94 acres) and displays almost 50,000 individual plants representing 8,500 different species.
DAY 9 ... The @Library_Vic in #Melbourne The central portion of Ian Potter Queen's Hall opened in 1856 as the Library's original reading room. Named in honour of Queen Victoria, the complete space reopened on her birthday (24 May) in 1859 when the Library's south wing was added.
DAY 10 ... Flinders Street Station. It was the terminus of the first railway in Australia and was reputedly the world's busiest passenger station in the 1920s #melbourne #australia

I had a sad day yesterday, my last day @Library_Vic which has become my home away from home - saying goodbye to the lovely staff was just the start of many goodbyes as I prepare to move to @sunshinecoastoz Thanks for six years of joy @Library_Vic
One of the best perks about being a writer, is the fact that you can live anywhere in the World. My new home will soon be #Mooloolaba in the @sunshinecoastoz Thanks to the likes of @Library_Vic @PRO_Vic and @TroveAustralia I will still be able to do my research from afar 🌞 🌊
