1. Health claims can be general e.g. "good for you" or specific like "for strong bones" but must be authorised. Most common non compliance..
2. Nutrition claims such as "low fat", "high protein" must meet the legal definitions and be substantiated...
3. Claims made on food labels must be substantiated. Do not use terms such as "vegan", "halal", "kosher" unless you have proof to justify..
4. Nutritional labelling must be appropriately calculated and displayed in the correct format.
5. Food allergens must be properly declared and emphasised in the ingredients list. "May contain" statements used only where risk assessed..
6. Its not just the words on a food label that need to be accurate. Pictures, graphics etc should not be misleading...
7. Durability or "use by" dates should be in correct format. Shelf life of many foods should be properly verified...
8. Ingredients should normally be listed in weight descending order at time food was made. % of characteristic ingredients also declared..
9. Website & social media count as "food information". Details posted on Facebook, Twitter etc also need to comply with legal requirements..
10 . Food additives need to be appropriate for the food and labeled in terms of the category of additive and either its' name or E number...
