Snow has arrived, and with it, the return of #avalanche #danger ‼️. Using a 3D elastoplastic Material Point Method (#MPM), calibrated with friction & strength from in situ measurements, we can reproduce avalanches with high fidelity.
✨Congratulations to Lars Blatny for publishing his model for #cohesive, #compressible #granular flows in @JFluidMech ! This new elasto-viscoplastic model opens up new ways to simulate materials as sand & snow in both #solid & #fluid states, including complex #fracture processes
