We had an incredible morning at the UW Women's Health and Health Equity Research Lecture and Symposium today! Thanks to Dr. Denise Howard for the powerful keynote, Dr. Madelyne Greene, Dr. Tiffany Green, and Annette Miller for exceptional research presentations!
A little weird tho that a private business CAN choose to DENY a customer because he/she is a member of a protected class, but a private university CANNOT choose to ACCEPT a customer because he/she is a member of a protected class.
Some folks are in my mentions saying they don’t care what color their doctor is and all they want is a qualified doctor. BUT, the data shows for Black patients, the race of our health professionals does INDEED make a difference in the care we receive. Sad, but reality. THREAD.
The Supreme Court's decision to strike down affirmative action, including in professional schools, like medical and nursing, will have detrimental consequences on Black health for generations to come. This is about life & death for us. Today, we are only 5% of physicians.
The myth of meritocracy is that we are all being taught under the same conditions in the same schools with the same books with the same resources to afford tutors and support when necessary.
What a fantastic last few days at #VAM2023! Grateful for the opportunity to share our group’s work as an International Fast Talk and to (finally!) meet so many brilliant folks in person!

I question whether Mr. Neely was actually having a mental health crisis. Is it a mental health crisis when you're hungry and you have nowhere to live, and you probably haven't slept properly in years? Or is that a policy crisis?

Wait until y'all find out about Catholic hospitals which have never provided the full spectrum of reproductive care and impose additional hurdles doctors have to jump just to provide the proper care for ectopic pregnancies.

In Oklahoma, a woman was told to wait until she's 'crashing' for abortion care
A new study shows women who call the hospitals in Oklahoma get confusing information about the state's abortion bans. One family lived through that confusion with dire consequences last month.

Like we said before--we follow directives from the FDA, and not anti-abortion judges in Texas who lack any formal medical training. Whole Woman's Health will continue to dispense Mife in our clinics and our Pills by Mail Program for the next week as we monitor both decisions.
Breaking: Judge Kacsmaryk has stayed the FDA approval of mifepristone, the abortion pill that has been approved for over two decades. This is slated to take effect in seven days.
I don’t think ppl realize how large a 105,000-110,000 turnout in Madison is. It’s roughly 10-15k higher than the 2020 presidential primary
Madison cast around 95,700 votes in the 2020 Wisconsin Supreme Court election, which coincided with the Dem presidential primary. The city is on track to pass that number by quite a bit

“I want to make something clear to the viewers. There were a lot of people living in a post-Roe world in Wisconsin prior to the Dobbs decision and this is really important to understand.” -@Tiffany_L_Green discusses #abortionrights in WI w/ @AliciaOnMSNBC on.msnbc.com/3TVXAmQ
All I'm saying is: scholars should understand "race" as a process rather than an ahistorical, nominal demographic characteristic.
