Once in my life I maligned the 2F1. “Too complicated”, I said. “Three singular points? Who cares?”, said I. I am sorry, hypergeometric 2F1. You’re every function I need and more ❤️

Math/CS dual majors deeply offend me because a key point of studying math is to be completely unemployable

Oh, a category? That's just an internal category in the category of 0-categories, up to equivalence of categories.

Here's a fun fact. Let E be an elliptic curve, and consider the 2:1 map E-->E/{±1}=P^1. Then the image of the 3-torsion E[3] in P^1 consists of 5 points, the image of the identity and 4 other points x_1, ..., x_4. FACT: The cross-ratios of the x_i are independent of E.

Two new papers (which started as one paper), with Aaron Landesman. The first is mostly expository, though we produce a bunch of IMO quite cool new examples — it’s meant to be a gentle to the techniques we’ve been developing. 1/n arxiv.org/abs/2209.00717 arxiv.org/abs/2209.00718

[Rubel 1981]: For any pair of cont. maps f: ℝ→ℝ and ε: ℝ→ℝ₊ , there is a C∞ solution y of the ODE 3y'⁴y''y'''² - 4y'⁴y'''²y'''' + 6y'³y''²y'''y'''' + 24y'²y''⁴y'''' - 12y'³y''y'''³ - 29y'²y''³y'''² + 12y''⁷ = 0 such that | f(t) - y(t) | < ε(t) for all t.
