52% of FY2 Doctors have no job for August. 30,000 applied for just 10,000 training posts. The Government’s response? A vague promise of 1,000 posts over 3 years. It's deliberate neglect The NHS is haemorrhaging talent. Patients wait Doctors leave And the Government shrugs
A third of resident doctors are facing unemployment next month. We’re bringing the issue of insufficient training places and job insecurity into our ongoing #PayRestoration dispute with the Government. Read our statement in full: bma.org.uk/bma-media-cent…
At ~2am this morning, I was on the phone to a cardiology registrar. They gave expert advice about some lifesaving interventions. That expertise is invaluable. It’s certainly not worth 21% less than it once was. A good deal can be done to restore value, if govt wanted to do it.
“We’re asking to get round the table to talk about a realistic, sustainable and credible offer that works for doctors and also, crucially, works for patients.” Our chair @fletchjack speaks to @TimesRadio this morning
While you wait hours in A&E, NHS doctors in England are being forced into unemployment. The Government has capped how many doctors can train to become specialist Consultants/GPs; creating a bottleneck in the NHS workforce. This year, 30,000 doctors applied for just 10,000…
There are major doctor shortages in the NHS, partly because pay is so low. No-one who wants to defend the NHS would keep doctors' or nurses' pay so low. Resident doctors reject Streeting's please and go ahead with strike theguardian.com/society/2025/n…
So @wesstreeting rules out pay. And his big fix? 2,000 extra jobs over 3 years, when 30,000 doctors applied for just 10,000 posts this year alone. Tens of thousands of doctors shut out, patients left waiting. This isn’t a solution, it’s a deliberate choice to let the NHS rot.
Yesterday, we met with @wesstreeting We’ve not been presented with a credible offer to restore our pay or fix the specialty training crisis in England. We’ve been left with no choice but to return to the picket lines bma.org.uk/our-campaigns/… #PayRestoration #EndTrainingCrisis
Thousands of NHS doctors are being blocked from becoming Consultants/GPs due to Government caps on speciality training places. Patients wait months for care while qualified doctors are left jobless. Wes Streeting knows this - so why isn’t he fixing it? telegraph.co.uk/opinion/2025/1…
This is @wesstreeting's NHS without any strikes. The oldest, frailest people in our society abandoned in corridors. 44,765 patients waited 12 hrs + in A&E in Sept 2025 (increasing). Elderly people dumped on trolleys for days, a report describes it as“war‑like conditions”.
How many patients know this? In 2025 there were 91,999 applications for just 12,833 training posts. Thousands of doctors who want to be your next GPs and A&E doctors were shut out. So when you wait months for an appointment/12hrs in A&E, remember this is the government’s choice
A 2% real terms pay cut is the real slap in the face. Let alone the tone deaf paragraphs on resident doctors’ employment prospects. There appears to be very little grasp of why we are actively haemorrhaging doctors from the NHS.
The Department of Health and Social Care @DHSCgovuk has published its written evidence to the #DDRB. Please find it here: gov.uk/government/pub…
You’re waiting months to see a specialist doctor and years for your surgery. Meanwhile, the Health Secretary @wesstreeting is threatening to cut doctors’ jobs and refusing to fund training. This isn’t protecting the NHS. Is this really the Labour Party people voted for?
We can deliver on jobs, training places and conditions for resident doctors. Our ability to do so will be hamstrung by unnecessary and irresponsible strike action. My message to the BMA is simple: call off the strikes, come back to the table and improve doctors’ lives.
Streeting is using the tired cliches of Tory governments. To improve the recruitment and retention rates of doctors they should be paid properly. We won't be held to ransom, Streeting tells striking doctors thetimes.com/uk/healthcare/…
Artificial bottlenecks. Manufactured crisis. Governments for years has pinned the blame on BMA for apparently veto’ing medical expansion despite the BMA not having any power (and also forgetting the point was lack of jobs post training). But here we have it from the horses…
Health and Social Secretary @wesstreeting: “My message to resident doctors: the fewer doctors who go on strike, the more specialty jobs I can afford to create.”
Holding doctors’ futures hostage to score headlines is beneath any health secretary @wesstreeting. Imagine a Health Secretary who dangles jobs like a ransom note. That’s Wes Streeting’s idea of ‘supporting’ the NHS.” Labour promised to value the NHS, not threaten it.
Wes Streeting, from the party of organised labour, threatens workers that if they go out on strike over pay he'll cancel their essential training. Labour, on the side of working people until they stand up for themselves, & then its sneers & threats.

Only 68.4% of F2 doctors had confirmed medical employment at the end of Foundation, down from 80.8% last year. The NHS is training doctors, then leaving them stranded. And @wesstreeting wants to use unemployment as a bargaining chip. Shameful #NHSWorkforce #BMA
For years, Governments have failed to fix a crisis that leaves NHS doctors unemployed and patients waiting. While you wait years for your surgery and months to see a specialist, thousands of qualified doctors are sitting at home; blocked from progressing in their careers and…
