One of the best debugging tips that I got was to delete things. Macro: chop out whole sections of code at a time to see where the issue really is (your assumption is often wrong). Micro: chop out sections of objects / functions to see what still works.

Thinking fast + slow. Fast Name a painting: Mona Lisa Name a band: The Beatles Slow Name a painting: Guernica Name a band: The Ronettes Slow is always more interesting. Train slow so when you need to think fast your subconscious is primed.

Heuristics are something you hear a lot about in tech. I found this definition useful: "A heuristic is a rule of thumb that makes things simple and easy to implement. The main advantage is that the user knows this mental model is not perfect, just expedient."

Don’t annoy your readers by over-explaining: telling them something they can figure out. Try not to use words like “surprisingly,” “predictably” and “of course”. Those words put a value on a fact before the reader encounters the fact. Have trust. - On Writing Well
