1/3 The first finding in the report In Plain Sight: Addressing Indigenous-specific Racism and Discrimination in B.C. Health Care could not be any more clear. “Widespread Indigenous-specific stereotyping, racism and discrimination exists in the B.C. health-care system.”

'Turpel-Lafond’s investigation has shed light on something that is truly insidious and destructive: anti-Indigenous racism runs so rampant and unchecked in our society that it has become the unspoken norm, something devastating “in plain sight.”' GCSP bit.ly/36nnSqU
.@CherylCcasimer also tells @NEWS1130 she supports similar reviews for #BC's education, child welfare and justice systems and she believes Health Minister @adriandix will make good on promises to act swiftly to ensure everyone gets the same level of care. #bcpoli #InPlainSight
She hopes this report paves the way for ending "rampant" racism "It's heartbreaking at first. Then I get a sense of anger... Why are we being subjected to a lower quality of health care and patient care just because of the colour of our skin. It's totally unacceptable." #bcpoli
Dr. Turpel-Lafond’s report is comprehensive, far-reaching & pivotal. It shows that systemic racism exists; it persists in our health care system; and it is toxic for people and toxic for care. The work to set us on a path to healing and reconciliation has already begun. 1/7
Racism is toxic for people and it's toxic for health care. Hospitals and clinics must be places of trust and comfort. This report shines an important light on systemic racism, and work is already underway to act on the recommendations.
