Even the healthiest of us get sick sometimes, and when we’re sick, we all have our own preferred comfort foods to help us feel better. Our #culinaryarts students explored the concept of “Get Well Soon” recipes in their latest unit.
Preparations for our Spring Showcase Exhibition are fully underway at The Advanced Arts Program. Students in our #Drawing & #Painting course are finishing up work on these beautiful self portraits! We can’t wait to see these paintings featured in our virtual exhibition!

First-Year students in #Animation & Sequential Arts are creating their first walk cycle #gifs in #photoshop! Walk cycles are bread and butter for animators because it is an essential part of the art form whether one is working in 2D, 3D, or in Stop Motion.
Our #culinaryarts students continue t0 rise to the challenge in their annual breadmaking unit. Here we see a student’s perfect #french #baguettes from start to finish. A French baguette needs a hard outer-crust, and a soft, fluffy interior. Pass us the #bread and #butter please!
Pottery in-progress over in our Creative Arts & Ceramics class! Students are working on creating vases with symmetrical arm build-off designs. These vessels will be ready to paint soon, and then will go on display in our Spring Showcase Exhibition.
Our Video Production students have been experimenting with different lighting techniques for film this past week. In this lighting test shot, we see them utilizing Venetian Blinds in what has now become a fairly famous set-up and well used trick in the film industry.
Our #Drawing & #Painting students are moving into long term concentration work. This means each student picks a topic they are passionate about and create a body of work around it. There are already so many awesome #paintings in progress!
Our Culinary Arts students are so talented. They’re using their knowledge and skills gained in the kitchen this year to craft recipes of their very own! These original “Strawberry Crunch Cupcakes” were created by Onya Jones of @orracademyhigh! We wish we had a dozen of these 🤤!
Our #videoproduction students are making great use of their new studio space. When creating films of any kind it’s great to have a large, multi-use space that can be transformed to meet numerous #filmmaking needs!
We want to wish all our Advanced Arts students taking the #SAT today the best of luck! You can do it! Today is a district wide testing day in #cps. So there is no class today for our program. 🍀 📚 🤞 All courses will resume tomorrow at their normally scheduled times.
Today is the final day of the big “200 Minutes” project in #Animation & #Sequential Arts. This is an intensive two day project where students animate for 100 minutes straight each day using traditional light board animation methods.
Our #animation & #sequentialart students are hard at work today on their “200 Minutes” project. In this project students learn what it is like to #animate with traditional #lightboard setups. This is a project that requires a high amount of focus and dedication!
A big thank you to Cynthia and Liz of @QuimbysBooks for opening the shop on a day it’s usually closed so our #Animation & Sequential Arts students could have a private tour! They had a blast and learned so much. Thank you for supporting the next generation of #Chicago #zinesters!
Today we’ve been presented with a fantastic life lesson by our #Drawing & #Painting students. #lifeprotip, don’t cry over spilled #pizza! 🍕 We hope this #linocut print by one of our students brought a smile to your face, and also made you crave some pizza for #dinner tonight!
Cold #Chicago days like today, when #snow is in the air, call for #comfortfood! Which is exactly what our #Culinaryarts students are dishing up in class! This creamy #homestyle #macandcheese by student Grettel Guzman looks like it’ll definitely hit the spot. 🤤
Our #videoproduction class has been hard at work creating their very own #greenscreen studio to use in upcoming #studentmade productions. With a #greenscreen, the filmmaker’s imagination is the only limit for location settings!
Resting on a shelf in our Creative Arts & Ceramics room are #handmade #coilpots created by our students. It’s always fun to see these shelves fill with work throughout the year. #Clay #pottery like these, need to dry out as much as possible before going into a #kiln for #firing.
The #Hero and #Villain #Zines our first-year #animation and #sequentialart students were working on are now complete. And what an amazing #distro release they make! These covers are so inviting, we can’t wait to dive into reading this year’s entries to this annual class release!
