Discussing Brexit practicalities for small businesses

RoO are potentially a huge problem for many small manufacturers. We have spoken to several in the last few days who do not know if the level of value they add to goods purchased in the EU qualify for minimum processing thresholds, potentially causing problems re-exporting (+NI)

Rules of origin are not insurmountable for business, but they can render a "tariff-free" trade deal meaningless for companies if it's just easier to deal w/the tariff than proving origin or adjusting components - esp. when starting from a position of having none for UK-EU trade

Not the easiest to follow, but for those interested in the big picture of trade relations between US, EU and China this exchange between @alanbeattie and @IanaDreyer is an essential read. Real debate on key issues, and good points on both sides.

Future UK trade policy needs to care about things like this. Real trade, not just imaginary stuff on what the state can do

The first instinct of politicians should be do what you can to support business through this period, don't dismiss the concerns

If the UK and EU don't start issuing some JOINT guidance on the deal I am going to scream. Beyond ridiculous, having given companies inside a week to get ready, to expect businesses to check two different versions of documents for everything. Both summaries were frustrating spin

Both of them should have known.

A big problem for UK businesses, deal or no deal!

We have received questions from businesses who struggle to understand Custom Procedures Codes and which one to apply to the importation of their raw materials and components. Does anyone know where to get advice on this?

There is concern among many small businesses that the CCG waiver to max £ 10,000, which needs to cover both duties AND import VAT, will be insufficient to cover their imports and higher waivers are being turned down. Do you have any experience with this? #BrexitConcerns

There is a list of software providers on the HMRC website, but we have no idea of costs and complexity. Does anyone have any view on this?
