It takes a trained eye and keen intuition to find some of the more elusive members of the group. For example, this unassuming bulge is actually hiding a male! If you look closely you can spot his eyes when we turn on the spotlight.
The range of these animals is large and they spend time in some unlikely areas. It can take hours or days even to find them. #cats #snowday #Documentary
As you can see, this mouse has absolutely nothing to worry about from its usual adversary. Food is so plentiful here that the cats are even willing to share their resources. A truly incredible behavior. #cats #snowday #Documentary
These cats have such ready access to food thanks to nearby humans they no longer even have the instinct to chase prey. #cats #snowday
While this Clowder is resting let's take a look at a different group where decades of human interference have impacted the cats to the point they are no longer interested by food sources that take energy to access. #cats #snowday
Eventually the instinct to conserve energy will overrule the natural inclination to hunt and the cat will revert to its more commonly observed sedentary hibernating behavior. #cats #snowday
Additionally, cats are very curious creatures and this one is tracking movement on the other side of the barrier. It is bound and determined to find the origin of the motion. It may spend up to half an hour investigating as it may indicate a food source. #cats #snowday
Oh look at this! One of the cats has discovered a change in their environment blocking the vital sunlight they depend on to warm themselves. It will spend hours trying to figure out how to get around the barrier. #cats #snowday
Today we will be studying the hibernating house cat. We'll take a look at their social structure, eating habits, and if we're lucky, be adopted into their warm furry cuddle pile.
