It's time for public school teachers to get a raise.
This is what I have heard from a lot of teachers. A gut level feeling that something wasn’t quite right - but, everyone was doing it. So, the problem must be them. They weren’t doing it right.
For me, personally, BL always seemed slightly “off”, but all of our training and PD was centered around it, so I assumed it worked. (And when kids didn’t read, I thought I was doing it wrong). Plus, college was all whole language, so there’s a generation of T’s steeped in this.
I have made it my mission to unteach children that “fiction is fake.” Here are my new definitions I started teaching today: ▪️Nonfiction = learning through information ▫️Fiction = learning through imagination …
