Funded 14 med students/premeds to come to #AMEC2023 due to the generosity of a few. This was their view😍 @SNMA is home and the space where doctors of color flourish. #AMEC2023

You may have heard the shocking headline that 250,000 people die every year in the US due to misdiagnosis in the ER. You may be even more shocked to know that this statistic is extrapolated from the death of... just one man. in a Canadian ER. over a decade ago.

The ED is a busy time with so much to do at all times but it is still definitely a place where you can make an impact on someone’s life. Communication (both listening and relaying info) and empathy is equally (if not more sometimes) important as clinical knowledge.

Getting to the end of my 6 day stretch of over 12hr days and roughly 100 patients seen and I’m reflecting on the words that have been used to describe me by patients and families each day: “kind, patient, a good doctor, caring” so in my exhaustion I’ll hold on to that 🙏🏿

Been out of the department for less than a week and already over it. Get me back to the ED and all it’s chaotic glory

Intern year is a whole lot of “I definitely knew that and should have been more confident with my knowledge” mixed with a “wow I’ve never even heard of that before I have no knowledge”

Does anyone else have the worse diet known to man when you’re on nights or are you normal?

A curious little one in Cameroon. Scores of children in the country don't have access to safe drinking water and sanitation facilities. UNICEF is working with partners to ensure every child has access to safe water, hygiene facilities and other essential supplies.

I have a black dentist and hygienist for the first time in my life and I walked in and almost shed a tear of joy. Even as someone in the medical profession it is hard to imagine having a black provider. Representation truly matters and I’m happy I can be that for joy for others!

Signing orders on your own is a wild concept that I’m wondering how long it will take me to get used to.

Being a child or an adolescent in these times must be the most confusing, depressing, complicated thing ever. Because how do you explain what is happening in America to a 6 year old? 13 year old? A 17 year old?

Forced birth in a country that doesn’t have mandatory maternity leave or universal healthcare…

If this was about babies, there would be universal healthcare. Free education. Free daycare. Southern states would be doing all they can to drop the Black maternal mortality rate. This is about power and control
