Today, a fall scouting report on some of the hottest forthcoming LPE and LPE-adjacent articles. Congrats to all the authors on such wonderful placements🎉 lpeproject.org/blog/some-of-t…

Absolute chef's kiss of a community note. What a lot of work passive voice is doing here!

Earlier today, one of our officers was shot while protecting our subway system. I am relieved to report he is in good condition now, and we have arrested the suspect who put so many lives in danger. I cannot thank these officers enough for their bravery.

An Appeal survey of state prison systems reveals that prisoners in many of the hottest states live in units without air-conditioning. Only five states provide air conditioning in all prison housing units.

When I did a colloquium on Prison/CLS Abolition last Fall, I was certain I could never match the lineup. BUT I DID! @j_simonson @hashtagblevin @DanielHarawa @AnnaFinally @SandeepinBK @MaybellRomero @erin_r_collins @AHoagFordjour @vmsoutherland @kemiller41 and Terrell Carter!

I have a STUNNING lineup for my colloquium on prison abolition, this is a brag (no humble)in order of appearance: @inGerri @JameliaNMorgan Omavi Shukur (@ColumbiaLaw) @orangebegum @ayagruber @j_simonson @jiseonsong @ProfARoberts @SandeepinBK and Trevor Gardner (@WashULaw).

Another attempt to silence, intimidate, and undercut anyone who’s not white & not a cis man — particularly Black women. Gross.

In what is perhaps the most unhinged legal complaint I’ve read filed by actual lawyers, the extremist group America First Legal issues a conspiracy theorist rant on behalf of allegedly aggrieved white men in the legal academy where ppl of color occupy a mere 20% of all faculty.

After years of advocacy, the Assembly has the votes to pass a major bill to protect families from harassment via ACS/CPS — but they’re about to go home without voting on it. They have no excuse to avoid passing this.

The scary "book on terrorism" NYPD is using as evidence of criminal intent is an Oxford Press textbook from International Affairs U6387, a course taught this semester at Columbia by Michael E. O’Hanlon, director of research in foreign policy at the Brookings Institution

Pencils, books, laptops, those are the tools of students and what you expect to find on a college campus. But here’s what the NYPD found in Hamilton Hall at Columbia University after we were able to arrest the protestors and agitators for commandeering and barricading themselves

This is why you don’t invite police onto your campus. You are inviting on a force prepared to kill your students.

I am genuinely shocked anyone would tolerate this behavior by a public servant. @NYCMayor is this ethical? Is this professional? Does this reflect the kind of service you expect from your administration? What kind of institutional culture does this reflect and tone does it set?

The continued mismatch between @Columbia’s actions and the alleged harms remains baffling to the point of bad faith. And the tragedies the president laments below seem the predictable outcomes of her actions. I’m a proud alum, but I do not have faith in this administration.
