Nice to see that @ApacheCalcite gets a mention. Who'd like to talk about that "POSIX-like standard"?

It took three years to finish, but our follow-up to the 2006 "What Goes Around Comes Around" is finally out! Stonebraker and I examine the last 20 years in databases and discuss why relational databases + SQL will continue to remain on top. 📄PDF: db.cs.cmu.edu/papers/2024/wh…

I just came out of a rabbit hole when I was trying to understand what is @substrait_io. Ended up learning about @ApacheCalcite, @ApacheArrow , Ibis, dbt and many other frameworks. This 🧵 is only a short version about Substrait, Calcite, and Arrow. Let's get started…

Nice that @ApacheCalcite gets a mention (around 43:00) TBH I was hoping that Andy was going to discuss multidimensional query engines, because OLAP was once synonymous with multidimensional. The relationship between relational and multidimensional DBs is fascinating.
.@CMUDB Advanced DB Lecture #2: Modern OLAP Database Systems: youtu.be/7V1oi_8uvuM This is an overview of current DB landscape. The focus is on why shared-disk system architectures are now preferred over shared-nothing. I filmed this after I got out of court last week.
