It's really hard to believe that it's been almost 12 years since I started my Apple collection. From broken devices to new ones, weird units to demo units, and prototypes to production models, I've pretty much collected every single variety of Apple device.

When the Apple Watch (1st Generation) was released in 2015, there was a rare and largely undocumented Apple product that was created alongside it: Apple Watch Demo (“The Wedge”). Check out my YouTube Short showcasing this lost piece of Apple history! youtu.be/uNZ2oxxfjV4?si…

Prototype 1st Generation AirPods Case (PROTO1 Stage). This “clear shot” prototype is completely transparent, used by Apple for dust and moisture testing. Several hundred of these prototypes appeared on the market in early 2025, but sold out within just a few days. #appleinternal

Prototype Apple AirPods Pro (DVT Stage) with a QR code, factory stickers and external banana plugs for power. Definitely one of the most visually appealing prototypes I’ve seen. #appleinternal

Prototype 1st Generation AirPods Case (PROTO3 Stage). This “partial clear shot” prototype has a transparent lid, used internally for dust and moisture testing. Oddly, this case seems to accept serial input through the command line, but does not have any output. #appleinternal

Prototype iPod nano 7th Generation (DOE / Design of Experiments Stage). This iPod is unique, having a mounting plate adhered to the back. It is also missing a battery, and the logic board is a blank placeholder with a sticker identifying the iPod as “Smurfs-DOE”. #appleinternal

More high-effort fake Apple “iPhone 1st Generation prototypes” have started flooding the market. They have X’d out serial numbers, dummy IMEI numbers, and a bell icon. The engravings are FAKE. Usually sold as “no power” and have intentionally destroyed components. #appleinternal

Weird Prototype iPad 1st Generation (OQC Stage) running Switchboard. There is a large puncture on the back, engravings and factory stickers. Oddly the hole is blown outward and is very ragged. The iPad also has multiple different serial numbers written on the back. #appleinternal
