Fantastic day at #ATC2023SanDiego! Dr. Atkinson delivered two incredible presentations sharing some of the lab's work on 1) complement inhibition in organ Tx and 2) strategies for targeted immunosuppression to the endothelium in lung Tx.

More evidence supporting the efficacy of targeted complement inhibition! We recently collaborated with Stephen Tomlinson at @MUSChealth to show that P-selectin targeted complement inhibitors specifically localized to reperfused tissue and reduced injury in a murine limb Tx model.

After contracting COVID-19, Dr. Sean Devine's lungs were scarred & unable to work on their own. He was flown to @UFHealth, one of two places in the U.S. at the time that had successfully performed a COVID-19 double lung transplant. Hear his story of strength, recovery and love.


We recently showed that VCA donor graft treatment pre-transplantation with CR2-Crry provided protection from IRI and delayed graft rejection. The results are published in our new paper with collaborators at @MUSChealth in the lab of Stephen Tomlinson: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34394069/


We are extremely proud to annonce that lab member Alexander McQuiston successfully defended his PhD Dissertation earlier this month and will be starting as a post-doctoral fellow at Stanford later this fall. Congrats, Dr. McQuiston! You will be missed!

Important work by Sommer et al. showing organ-specific differences in tolerance induction in #transplantation. Why is this important? A “one-size-fits-all” approach in transplantation is unsuccessful, and we can't assume that all organs benefit from the same immunosuppression.

Although the clinically applicable protocol showed success in #kidney transplantation, the study by Sommer et al. did not show long-term survival in a #lung transplant model, highlighting the organ-specific differences in tolerance induction. bit.ly/3eDBCRM
