No matter what you do the @Microsoft switch is going to cost one way or another, will SMBs be able to survive this? What's the answer?

It's all v.expensive, some will suggest office 365 but office '13 isn’t supported on XP so you'd still need to upgrade desktops

Upgrading to server 2008 & above forces clients to upgrade to newer version of apps eg. sage & quick books if they're running old versions.

... or upgrade backend systems & desktop environment as well?

SMEs running 2003 running XP are stuck, do they upgrade systems to server 2008, exchange 2010, try office 2010 & maintain XP...

... as of April 2014 @Microsoft will no longer support or maintain security patches for any of the 2003 based systems including windows xp.

Office 2013 (only version available via 365) doesn't support windows xp & exchange 2003...

2003 platform goes end of life April 2014;includes exchange 2003/server 2003/office 2003/windows xp. Are orgs ready for cost involved?

As orig. servers aren’t touched roll back is simple. We’ve used this method before & successfully migrated entire data centre environments.

Our CDP tech is block level meaning clients new servers will look & feel like the old platform but on a new under lying platform environment

We’ve successfully migrated 2 clients from old hosted environment using mix of Hyper-V & physical servers to the Atlanta platform!

Using @falconstorUK CDP tech allows us to migrate multiple servers over an evening with a comprehensive rollback option

We use @FalconStorUK CDP to facilitate migration between data centres & platform types doing P2V & V2V while moving servers at the same time

We're about to run a VDI software trial between @citrix and @VMware which #VDI technology do you prefer - we're interested in your opinion.

Why not increase the number of RDMs supported by a cluster and leave the storage vendors to the storage virtualisation….

Now it seems that @VMware kind of agree & with next release of ESX they're touting to introduce vVols - VMDKs stored natively on the array

You have to manage your volumes somewhere, either VMDK on VMFS or RDMs on the array. We happen to prefer the latter for a number of reasons.

...Why layer a poor storage virtualisation tech (VMFS) on top of excellent storage virtualisation sol like @DellCompellent ...

We've long argued against the case for VMFS vol. & have been using RDMs when deploying “intelligent arrays”, reason being....

We're now certified to sell/install @NimbleStorage hybrid disk arrays. This is fantastic news & we're excited to offer this great technology
