The Marsh Fritillary glow-up... 🐛 🦋 @BBCSpringwatch #Springwatch
"Hey, did you know that's nearly the end of #Springwatch?" "Who?" "I said - that's the end of Springwatch!" "Well, how are we supposed to enjoy the best of our regional wildlife now?" "I suppose we could follow Yorkshire Wildlife Trust on here..." "...Who?" 📷Russell Savory
What better way to end this year's #Springwatch than with the marvellous Marsh Fritillary 🤩 📷: Mark Searle #SaveButterflies @BBCSpringwatch
These iconic butterflies can be seen flying between May and June in damp or chalk grasslands where they lay large batches of eggs on their food plant, Devil’s-bit Scabious. 🌼 The larvae spin conspicuous webs that can easily be recorded in late summer. 🐛 #Springwatch
The Marsh Fritillary was once widespread but has declined severely over the last century, and is now threatened, not only in the UK, but across Europe. #Springwatch 📷: Mark Searle
There’s new hope for the Marsh Fritillary in Cumbria, one of our rarest butterflies. A new colony was discovered at @WildHaweswater last year after reintroduction in the county #Springwatch @BBCSpringwatch More: wildhaweswater.co.uk/2023/06/28/rar… 📷 Patrick Cashman rspb-images.com
Pied Wagtails sure do live up to their reputation for strange nesting sights @BBCSpringwatch They're known to have nested in cars, abandoned machinery and more! Have you spotted any unusual bird nesting sites? We'd love to hear and maybe see! Share with us below #Springwatch 🐣
You heard the lovely @MeganMcCubbin, knock on your neighbours door and chat about installing a hedgehog highway as an activity for #30DaysWild @springwatch #springwatch 📽️Stuart Edmunds
We love a pine marten - although this unexpected visitor to Spurn Point last year (not exactly a pine marten magnet) left us scratching our heads! Along with our friends from @NatureSpy, we realised ours came from Dalby Forest - 60 miles away! #Springwatch 📷Karen Dore
Think like a Hedgehog! 🦔 If you were a Hedgehog how easy would it be to make your way around your garden and in and out of it? Help wildlife by creating safe corridors from your garden to the one next door. @BBCSpringwatch #Springwatch
People & wildlife alike this evening at @RSPBDorset... @BBCSpringwatch #Springwatch
A truly iconic species, Peregrine Falcons are the fastest bird on Earth, and can be seen across countryside sites, in towns and cities. Discover our helpful ID video to tell this species apart from other birds of prey ➡️ bit.ly/4eiPX3x #Springwatch 📷 Philip Croft/BTO
Did you know, the name Goshawk is a contraction of ‘goose-hawk’, as it was believed this was the largest prey they could catch? #Springwatch @BBCSpringwatch 📷 Louise Greenhorn
This goshwak has us shaking in our boots 🫠 Known as the phantom of the forest, goshawks can fly through the trees at up 40km per hour as they hunt birds and small mammals! 🙃 #Springwatch @BBCSpringwatch
Well, good golly gosh(awk)! If you fancy an opportunity to enjoy these amazing birds of prey whizzing past, our Ellerburn Bank nature reserve on the edge of the North York Moors is a prime location! (With some pretty good views to boot) #Springwatch 📷Pete Richman
We love a nature reserve mural here at RSPB Scotland! Can you work out where you would find these beautiful murals from their close ups? @BBCSpringwatch #Springwatch
DAY THREE mural update. I’ve had another fantastic day painting my #wildlife mural at #Arne for @BBCSpringwatch 🎨 🖌️ Looking much more colourful now. Still have lots left to do tomorrow! You’ll be able to watch me LIVE painting on BBCiPlayer from 11am.
