At a time when mental health policies nationwide are moving in a more humane direction, today’s announcement by the Mayor raises major concerns. My statement:
.@NYCLU on @NYCMayor involuntarily committing those with mental illness who can’t take care of themselves “The Mayor’s attempt to police away homelessness… is a page from the failed Giuliani playbook. With no real plan for housing, services, or supports...”
The Mayor’s involuntary removals plan released today is a throwback to the widespread involuntary hospitalization of the ’80s & ’90s. Here’s our response from BMC Executive Director @AnthoninePierre:
Today: - @maraliasson on this week's primaries, and CPAC in Orban's Hungary, - @AnthoninePierre on fighting gun violence, - @eboopatel on helping kids understand racism, - The latest #BLTrees, with @nycbotanist & @DLNarango: Birdlife Live at 10 on 93.9 FM, AM 820 or @WNYC.org
Tune into WNYC this morning to hear BMC executive Director Anthonine discuss the root causes of gun violence and public health based solutions! instagram.com/p/Cdve6UquyDW/…
