Happy May Day! Known as Labour day here in Italy.
Hello to May or for the Romans Maius, originally the 3rd month of the year in the early Roman Calendar It was a month marked by festivals for the dead & the name of the month may come from the maiores (ancestors) or from the Goddess Maia who symbolised growth r/t @TrimontiumTrust
Every day is a school day, didn't know this about Pope Pius II!

'Rome says enough' It isn't always sunshine and gelato in the eternal city. Every day tour guides try to show visitors what an incredible city this is, but even I will confess, sometimes it's a bit of an uphill struggle. theguardian.com/world/2019/apr…

'Little Easter' known in English as Easter Monday is a day Italians usually spent with friends or heading out to enjoy the countryside.
If you're in Rome before June 9th don't miss out in the unique opportunity to see the famous holy steps uncovered after their recent restoration!
For the first time in around 300 years, the Scala Santa will be accessible to faithful and visitors in its original state: the 28 marble steps will appear without their wooden coverings, added in the 18th century to protect them from wear. Until 9 June. #VisitRome

Why lingering in a city can be rewarding. All the more excuse to stay in Rome longer! digitaledition.telegraph.co.uk/node/643913
Roadside shrines have been part of Roman life for thousands of years. These days images of the emperor have been replaced with images of the Virgin Mary. This one on Via dei Coronari is rather famous for being designed by the great architect Sangallo the Younger.
Does being Italian at heart count? Unfortunately not, also my blood is about as British as it gets! But maybe you qualify for Italian citizenship...?
Our latest feature helps answer the popular question do you qualify for Italian dual-citizenship? Help is here! italymagazine.com/featured-story… via @ItalyMagazine
Sometimes black and white just works! Walked past the Temple of Portunus today, the temple dedicated to the god of doors - yes, they had a god for everything!
How many times have I had to try to politely decline a third helping during a 20 course italian meal? Too many, and I rarely succeed! But if you want to try... italymagazine.com/news/how-say-n…
April Fools Day in Italy is called the April Fish Day. And no that is not an April Fools Day joke! italymagazine.com/featured-story…
The Borgia apartments at the Vatican were richly decorated by Pinturicchio. One of the frescoes, known as The Disputation of St Catherine, features the Pope's blonde-haired daughter Lucrezia Borgia as the saint herself wearing blue robes.
Well this is just brilliant. Cicero was an skilful ancient Roman orator, who started his speech against the conspirator Catiline with this sentence. It seem he is even relevant in Brexit! 'How long Theresa May will you go on abusing our patience?'
It's great to see Marcus Tullius Cicero coming out in support of a second referendum! I confess to nicking the pic from @unfortunatalie 's tweet.Thank you. And a nice reminder, should you need it, that Classics is there for liberal causes too, not just the Alt Right.
A short train ride away from Rome the town of Orvieto makes for a perfect day trip! This perfectly sized town offers enough to keep you occupied for a day, or even two if you want to stay overnight. The highlight? Of course, Orvieto's picture perfect Duomo.
Don't forget to look up. The ceilings of Roman churches are so stunningly beautiful you end up with neck ache! Santa Maria in Trastevere is one of my favourites.
Those following my Instagram will know I'm a huge fan of Rome's madonelle, little shrines usually depicting the Madonna situated on street corners. Like everything in Rome they have history! italoamericano.org/story/2018-3-6…
