this is only surprising if you’re blindly hating on matthews without paying attention to what’s actually happening. every chance he gets is created by himself. he gets nothing from his linemates.
When he’s on he’s on and he can be a damn effective player. The problem is he’ll do this and we wont see or hear from him again for another 10 games.
He does need to get his ass going. He’s such a unique talent and a huge part of whatever future we have. Has made some lazy plays recently that can’t continue. We all know how good a player he can be when he’s locked in.
We are reaching about a month now where Matthew Knies looks invisible. Outside of that ridiculous effort against CAR (Dec 4) I haven’t noticed him at all. He gets plenty of ice time with the teams best player, he needs to produce

Do I think some of the Leafs top guys are playing like losers? Yes. Do I also hate seeing fans making excuses for coaching/systems? Yes. This was a good possession team that made the Playoff 9 years straight. Now any random ass team will control play against them any night.

Just remember, Berube's "system" had the Leafs up 2-0 in the series and 3-1 in game 3 against the Panthers 5 minutes into the 2nd period. That was when they decided they didn't want to play his style anymore. It worked until the players wanted to do it their way #LeafsForever
