Biological Engineering: What does it mean? Where does it -- need to -- go? doi.org/10.48550/arXiv…
OK, what are you planning to learn/do today?
Congratulations to our scientist, Laurent Simons, for earning his PhD in quantum physics at just 15—an exceptional achievement. In our lab, Laurent’s work focuses on in silico biology to accelerate treatment of devastating diseases. We’re thrilled to have him on the team.
Biotech is the industry with the lowest success rate unfortunately, but at the same time trying to solve the problems that are worth solving the most.
Do you have a #biofoundry in your immediate geography? :)
What is a biofoundry? 🔬 A place where robotics, automation & biology meet — enabling high-speed design, build & testing of biological systems. Transforming research into innovation. 🧬 Learn more: parisbiofoundry.org #Biofoundry #SyntheticBiology #ParisBiofoundry
Did this happened to you? :)
Some people say that if you look into genomes for too long, you can even see comments left by the Software Engineer. 😀
Here's how #biology and #AI collide to bring new instruments that will improve humanity's chances to thrive!
Many of the most complex and useful functions in biology emerge at the scale of whole genomes. Today, we share our preprint “Generative design of novel bacteriophages with genome language models”, where we validate the first, functional AI-generated genomes 🧵
Join me tomorrow with the ValleyDAO team to talk about how we can get more people growing the green future
🚨 Proof of DeSci Tomorrow! We’ll be hosting @SynBio1, synthetic biologist & educator! Topics on the table: 🔬 Lab automation & DeSci 🌍 Climate science & adoption 😂 Science, memes & communication $GROW $HEMPY
Following the amazing talk today by Emma Dann we are excited to host @yusufroohani of the @arcinstitute for a special seminar this Thursday @ 10AM, presenting the efforts towards a virtual cell platform🔮
Start early!
me, 13 years ago, when I was 13 years old. Half my life ago I was fuckin sick’
We're hiring for 2 postdocs to work in our lab in London on the newly announced Wellcome Trust SynHG project. If you know people looking to work on big-scale ambitious science like this, please RT and share this with them. Apply by 7/20, interviews in Aug. imperial.ac.uk/jobs/search-jo…
Interesting discussion! Grab a pipette, they might dissapear!
Have to get people off the lab bench if you want more people contributing to bioengineering earlier in their careers. it just takes too long to learn all the tacit knowledge of bench work. you have to automate biotech lab work to democratize it.
Life is complex and diverse!

Size of @iGEM participation, a measure of nations' strategic focus in biotech? No 2025 RO team, yet... :(
An interesting Spring-Summer #synbio seminar series around symbiogenesis topics!
Together with Liyam Chitayat and Lorenzo Magni, I co-organized the inaugural edition of the Symbiogenesis Seminar Series, an online event focused on symbiogenesis.
Think this spontaneous trend should be supported/enhanced by organizers of (bio)hackathons, biotech association, clusters, etc! My most spectacular such experience is with the CEO of a 25 staffers Timisoara cloud services company. He started a biotech research MSc at UCL
I see more and more tech people trying their hand at biotech. This is wonderful. Minor schadenfreude when they hit the first real skill checks, but overall delighted to see fresh interest. It will filter out a lot of disinterested folks real quick tho...

New Night Science Podcast episode! David Baker was awarded the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. He explains how he socially engineers his lab’s "communal brain", where all individuals function like neurons, densely interconnected to maximize idea generation. nightscience.buzzsprout.com/1744020/episod…

The @iGEM Grand Jamboree doesn't feel like any other scientific conference. It's zany, it's authentic, and most of all, it's FUN I wrote this OpEd piece for @ACSSynBio about what makes iGEM work and why other scientific events need to take notes pubs.acs.org/doi/full/10.10…
30 years. 72 countries. 4485 risk assessments. All concluding the risks from commercialised GE crops do not differ from the risks of comparable non-GE crops. Is that enough safety data to convince you?
