I just want to say my life is good. While working in San Francisco years ago, paying a $2,600/month mortgage, I kept asking myself how I could get out of it all. From 1/4 acre: $2,600 mortgage $500 water/power To 40 acres: $0 I did it, I'm here.

I started putting together a seed bank when we lived in a small apartment. Some of the seeds grew on our upstairs balcony. There was some ideas about growing food if society collapsed. But it wasn't very rational. Here's the seed bank in our new garden area:

We're thinking these reds that we thought were hens might be roosters. My wife swears a little crow come from their area and they're starting to get the feather plumage on their tails. It's a curve ball, but we have red hens in our older flock so we could breed pure reds.
We didn't quite make it. I had to run about $6 worth of gasoline through the generator today, but that should be it for the month.
We haven't had to run the generator yet this month. That's: hot showers, microwaved food, Internet and computers. Zero monthly bill for electric. This wasn't an experiment, we're living an on grid life off the grid. Full time. No stops, get off the tracks.

Saw this in a military barracks the other day. Look closely at what the sign is now telling you to wash - I almost missed it. Men are children, even when we're gunfighters in a most dangerous profession. Do chicks even do stuff like this?
