This is the up-to-date progress report on the upcoming fantasy novel by Joseph Walters.
Writing session with Brandon. This time we're actually getting work done. I'm amazed at how much I can edit my first paragraph, though.
Writing session with Brandon today! I just read the first act of his play, and I laughed quite a bit.
A minor character becomes a second main character after much deliberation.
Cut about 1000 words from the first 12000, but added about 600 back in so far, with more to come.
"Thou shalt not drop adverbs like a newb." - Katie, my editor.
I'm doing a significant rework of the story arc again. It just isn't working for me yet. It's getting closer with each rework, though.
Chapters 5 and 6 on their way, tonight. I feel pretty bad about the lack of writing last week, but job hunting remains priority number 1.
Doing some serious chapter 2 edits again. I'm getting good feedback from Alpha readers and the consensus is that this chapter is too slow!
@dubhthach What's a good way to turn the word "Saoi" into something that reads with the same sound, but for English speakers? (Sie? Sei?)
Looking hard for a "real job" this week. I can't force my parents to support my writing habit forever!
First mostly positive review from a stranger on the initial chapters. Only note is to translate the Latin. Think I can manage that much.
Folks at youwriteon have told me I need to further differentiate from "Memoirs of a Geisha" so I'm going to see how far I can push it.
Home sweet hOmaha! 3 more chapters this week. Despite major changes I'm going to get it done. Hold me to it! #self-motivation
Chicago. Many memories old and new. Much good book material. Probably be back here all too soon. Don't go changing.
I feel like someone's wife who goes with her husband to a strip club. Everyone just looks at you wondering why you're with him at all.
This gives me a great idea for the book, though. The waitresses here know exactly how Artists in my book feel.
I'm sitting at a certain aviary themed restaurant I never thought I'd set foot in. I feel a deep sorrow for the wait staff here.
Another night of just editing and expanding. It's really starting to take, shape. I'm starting to feel the momentum of the story itself.
I feel at once a great disconnect from the world which I am slowly leaving, and a great intimacy with it while telling it's true story.
