Trying to turn Saturn into a luxury division while abandoning the original customers was beyond stupid & VERY POOR MARKETING!!
Would you believe G.M. had a huge sales success in the original, economical Saturns? Saturn sales peaked at 286,000 units in 1994!!!
Would you prefer a $30,000 Saturn or a $23,000 Mercedes??
That specific group of people will PERCEIVE your product as the best.
Create a product which is better for a specific group of people with specific problems that are not being solved very well by others. (cont)
A perception that exist in the mind is often a "universal truth". People are seldom, if ever, wrong. At least in thier own minds.
Study the perceptions in the consumers mind & focus your marketing programs on those perceptions.
Perception IS reality. Everything else is an illusion. Marketing is a manipulation of those perceptions.
#3 - The Law of Perception: Marketing is NOT a battle of products, its a battle of perceptions.
Marketing is NOT about spending $$ on advtsg, PR, etc. Those are just tools. Marketing is about growing your business - revenues, profit etc
Stop throwing money out of the window and camouflaging spending as marketing. Marketing should be an investment, not an expense.
If the $$ you spend on marketing isn't growing your business and bringing in more $$ in return then you have marketing that......SUCKS!!
If marketing is the battle of perception, not product, then the mind takes precedence over the marketplace.
#3 The Marketing Law of the Mind: It's better to be 1st in the MIND than to be 1st in the MARKETPLACE.
