Thanks to everyone who attended the programming classes at @JavaLoungeUK - I'd forgotten we started way back at the end of Jan!
Homework: write a console program to create & print an associative array of your own choosing - see the example in "The array type" section.
Today I repeated the arrays class for @lizpainter, so IIRC only @susitha_999 needs a catch-up class. Next week, conditionals!
Homework: if you can find the time, try writing the variables_calc.php script in the "Variables and types" section of the notes.
We squeezed loads in this eve! String concatenation, inline variables, arrays, array indices, reading array values, pushing values.
Looking forward to Tuesday's class - we'll carry on with numeric and string variable types, and might even get to look at arrays too.
Here's an illustration of how to make a hyperlink - adding it bit-by-bit makes remembering the structure easy.
Great class folks! Homework: practice writing an HTML document containing a <title>, some <h1> and <h2>, some <p> and some <a> tags.
Thanks for coming all - we had our class despite the power cut! We've now seen how the web works, and bit of both PHP and HTML.
Lovely to meet you all. Well, we've done a little intro and have everything installed to begin some HTML/PHP coding next week. See you then.
All attendees starting on Tuesday next week should now have the course notes in their inbox. Looking forward to meeting you all!
Our forthcoming courses are suitable for beginners and take around 20 weekly sessions. Bring a laptop, as it's very interactive!
@filipinahontas Hiya, did you do any Raspberry Pi stuff in the end? I must get one, very cool toys to play with!
The Sunday programming class has now finished, and we already have two folks wanting a restart. Anyone else interested? cc @OrtCafe
Hi all. Let's start the new course on Tuesday 28th, to give everyone time to clear their diaries! 7pm downstairs at Java.
My guess is we might start week beginning 20th or 27th, I'll keep everyone posted here.
Thanks all for availability info. @susitha_999 still waiting to hear from you, would you drop me an email? Thanks!
Courses require a laptop, running any operating system (Windows, OSX or Linux). We'll install your dev tools together in the first lesson.
... I suggest we start on Tue 14th or Wed 15th Jan. Please reply here which of these you can/can't do, and if you can definitely come.
Thanks to all who've responded to the call for a new midweek class. We have votes for Tues and Wed, and I can do both (continued...)
