Long-legged flies (Dolichopodidae) are stunningly beautiful insects!
I love assassin bugs! This zelus luridus watches for prey with its bright red eyes, ready to nab it with its sticky-haired, front legs.
One of the tropical milkweeds I started from seed in March have bloomed - and lured in some pollinators.
This striking sawfly (Acantholyda erythrocephala) was checking out my fennel. Pine trees are the host to these non-native sawflies.

Dandelion aren't weeds. They are food for pollinators (and us). The leaves are edible and rich in calcium, magnesium, and iron.
I catch a tiny flash of red patrolling the sandy soil in my garden this time of year. It's a cuckoo bee (nomada maculata)!
Forecast is 12-18 inches of snow tomorrow (Northeast). At least I have infant milkweeds to tend to while the snow buries the garden.
I'm back after a winter hiatus. Now comes the long wait for spring to come to the Northeast (no flowers/gardening until May here...).

The Euderces picipes (a long-horned beetle in the family Cerambycidae) has a distinctive ant-like appearance, especially on yellow flowers.

November 1st in Upstate NY and still have flowers and insects like this rudbeckia hosting a small aphid party.
