If your computer can be off out of hours, it means hackers can't get into it. Hackers are most active out of your working/waking hours as that is when they can get away with things you are not likely to spot.
If you have the ability with your work /personal email systems, report spam. Report scams. The more Scams and other malicious items are reported, the more accurate spam filters and other tools can get. The more you become accustomed to spotting threats, the safer we will all be.
We all need to follow that "6th" sense. The "gut" feeling. If something feels wrong, don't click. In some cases (like in emails) even if nothing feels wrong, still be cautious.
