Well here’s a downside of doing this kind of stuff in Florida. Upper 80’s with probably 95% humidity does not make for a good finish on the 2k clear coat I was planning to spray this morning. I’ll wait for a different day that’s a bit sunnier.
Working a sweaty day of sanding and priming. Getting the white parts primed white and the green parts black as they end up gold, and the grey filler primer again over some particularly bad print lined parts that will take another round of sanding before more primer and paint.
These steps ain’t pretty, but it will be eventually
Sometimes a goal look like monumental feat that you’ll never be able to overcome. If you break the big things down into little tasks, it’ll help keep things moving in the right direction !
I’ve finally reached the priming and sanding stage. Hand sanding, DA sander, dremel, whatever it takes. Filler primer now, hopefully the last details sanded tomorrow and final primer laid down before Thursday and then the first clear gloss goes down before chrome.
This is getting really intense now!! Glad the stitch for the lower back being replaced by another ab piece worked really well. Still more bits to assemble and test out before sanding and paint phase begins!
Oh yeah, this will do! Need a gasket around the arm hole still. Mobility is severely limited in this chest rig, no matter what. I may need a long straw to drink at the tailgate on Nov. 2nd
Added in a really nice comfort feature with backpack straps to bear the weight of this chest rig! Nice soft comfy support on my shoulders with these straps instead of the hard plastic part being directly pushing and pinching annoyingly.
Working the ab armor velcroed onto a lower back lifting support harness to help slim up that midsection.
That’s a doozy of a timeline, but I might be able to test out this suit at Tampa Bay Comic Con if things go okay!!
These are trickier parts than expected. There’s no room for the shoulder itself to rotate upward, which is essential to me for a “U.C.F. KNIGHTS!” Chant or a first down hand motion, so the biceps need to rotate under the shoulder. This means these straps are all elastic!!
OH MY GOD IT WORKED! -I mean, of course it worked!! This design turned out to be perfect for what I want. My legs are not supporting the calf armor at all, it’s off the surface of the boot, it has a great range of motion, super proud of this!!
Raining today so I can’t do as much as I wanted to on this project. I really wish I could get some whole days work on but just little bits at a time. Figuring out ankle joints to suspend the shin armor above the boot and still allow flexing in 4 ranges of motion.
Got the Fidlock buckles in and working well. I had to add an extended loop so I could more easily pull them apart with one hand. Laid down the first filler primer and exposed all the MANY imperfections that will need to be filled and smoothed out before paint. Getting exciting!!
Adding some luxuries to hopefully make getting dressed simple.
Working on some flexy straps to hold chest armor together with these nifty @FidlockUSA buckles. Since these go hidden behind armor the magnetic connection and easy pull to disconnect will help fix the issues I had with the Master Chief connections I struggled with last year
So much fun getting to talk to everyone. Never hesitate to stop me to say hi!
Making moves on the chest assembly hinge system on the shoulders. Decided that trying to make some kind of connection happen next to my ears where I can not see will just not be possible. Going to implement some magnetic Fidlock buckles under the arms to hold it closed.
