Psychologists have understood the benefits of paid parental leave for years. Here at CAMHP, we are overjoyed to see that the Mississippi state senate has passed Senate Bill 2438! It is a critical policy step toward paid leave.
The black community faces unique barriers in seeking treatment for their mental health. From social stigma and lack of access to care, to cultural distrust of the medical establishment, black Americans are less likely than their white peers to seek treatment when struggling.
Have you been feeling down lately? It could be a winter-induced depression known as seasonal affective disorder (SAD). The winter’s decrease in sunlight can disrupt our mood regulating hormones like serotonin and melatonin. Be sure to get outside more to fight SAD!

When it comes to mental health, sometimes local support and services just aren’t enough. In such cases, the civil commitment process can help. To determine the need for an in-patient program, just schedule a pre-affidavit screening with your local Community Health Center.
