The CFT Minicomputer
@CFTproject
A project to design & make a decreasingly well defined type of computer from the n-ties (n ≤ 80), including processor, peripherals, software & documentation.
CFT documentation back online at bedroomlan.org/hardware/cft/, including the in-browser emulator! More goodies incoming.

Board 2 of the Debugging Front Panel (frankenstein DEBugging board + Programmer's Front Panel) is now wired. On to Board 1! #electronics
Help us preserve this Ferranti Argus 100 from 1963. We need your help to raise money for logistics ... computinghistory.org.uk/news/32254/Hel… Pls RT
Front panel board 2 finally being wired. Yes, the bench is SUPPOSED to look this messy. #retrocomputing #electronics
Unexpectedly scary — I finished building all four PCBs of the CFT processor. Untested for now, but still, it has a weird finality to it.

D'oh! Reworking control bus assignments. There are exactly 81 signals, and 80 pins. Electronics musical chairs, anyone?
Processor Board 0 (formerly the Microcode Board) submitted for printing. Ten of these should be ready in a couple of weeks.
A batch of front panel boards are now on their way from China! (where else?) ‘Batch’ is misleading. There's 10, and 8 make ONE front panel.
<<< is that that number is NOT a Wagstaff prime. I'm utterly confused, and the regression test (in CFT assembly) is basically uncommented.
The 32-big negation test negates multiples of a Wagstaff prime. I have no clue why and I wrote the test. What's more interesting though, >>>
Front panel PCB modules are apparently now being printed. Etched. Milled. Drilled. Fabricated. Going from brainspace to meatspace. Whatever.
One of the oscilloscopes I've been considering runs #ARM #Linux and has a serial console. Free 60→200 MHz upgrade and hack value? Sold!
Just before construction, I took the time to for some better Verilog tests. What do you know? Lots of problems found in the schematics.
Extreme debugging - a tale of microcode and an oven j.mp/YiMHX9 #embedsys
Luckily, the fix didn't involve moving ICs about, routing more inter-board signals or using ICs not in my stocks. My kind of fix exactly.
