It was a great sunny day for milling this jarrah log in Darlington. We recovered some quality slabs from this log and a smaller section of trunk. Milling is a fantastic way to get value added timber slabs from a tree that has to be removed. Not all wood should be firewood.
Went "Free range" today to the Bean to Brook Cafe in the hills with the Vintage Motor cycle club of WA. Despite having to drop down to second gear up the hill, the bike didn't miss a beat and didn't overheat on a 37 degree day. You can just see the metropolis of Perth 😆
You know it's starting to warm up when the bobtails are seeking out a few drops of water from a conveniently placed leaky tap. He was under the tap mouth open but I took too long to take the photo and he moved.
Something I've been meaning to do for quite some time but always put it off. Not enough time! But isn't that just so flippant. Such a common excuse. Love my wife and daughter so much. 💕 For those who may not know. The blue tree is for mental health appreciation and awareness.
Using a zip line to dismantle a dead marri saved us some work and cleared the obstacles at the same time. Arborists can use various techniques according to the scenario to achieve the desired outcome.
Had a great day today mitigating risk from dead trees near a couple of shelters on the Bibbulmun track. The 1000km walk trail stretches from Kalamunda to Albany across the Darling Range and is popular with hikers. It was a real privilege to see some country as nature intended.
Under a grey sky we launched our bold offensive to liberate a noble flooded gum Eucalyptus rudis from the evil clutches of climbing rose. I won't lie, there were times that our struggle appeared futile, but the brave three from CPD continued undeterred. Viva la Revolution!
I spent 3 days in Kununurra this week observing the Horizon Power vegetation management crew with the intent of putting together a training program. Thanks to the crew for making me feel welcome and can't wait to go back and explore this ancient country.
The WA Xmas tree was a little early this year but just as spectacular as usual. m.facebook.com/story.php?stor…
Dead trees are an important part of the ecology providing habitat or food to many animals, invertebrates and fungi however this one was to close to buildings and represented an unacceptable risk.
Beaut day for a ride to the Serpentine tractor museum with the Vintage Motorcycle club of WA. Absolutely fantastic to see how some were started up. One used a shot gun cartridge, another cranked over and another used a petrol engine as a starter for a diesel engine.
An interesting job today removing a failed tree from a walk trail in the John Forrest National Park. Later we got to drive through the disused Swan View rail tunnel built in 1895.
Today we spent helping our friends at Arbor Carbon by collecting foliage and timber samples from some Norfolk island pines in Cottesloe Western Australia. There are many that are declining and hopefully the pathologists can determine the reason and develop a management plan.
Providing powerline clearance for a 30m lemon scented gum Corymbia citriodora. One of my favorite trees.
So glad we had an early finish today with the temperature rising to +40 degrees. So a great time to have lunch at the Hampton boat club in Dampier and do the tourist thing.
Golf courses are fantastic green spaces within the framework of suburbia. Each course is usually representative of the vegetation endemic to the region. This one at Kwinana has some spectacular examples of tuart Eucalyptus gomphocephala and grass trees Xanthorrhoea sp.
FFTITC relies on industry experts to tell us about their industry's skills & workforce needs. Here's a story about one of our industry stakeholders. Thanks to Michael Byrnes from @CPDTrees for his input over the years #industry #arboriculture #careers arborage.com.au/2019/12/25/sus…
We have just finished our annual arboricultural program at Parliament house which included 2 stone pines Pinus pinea. These trees took 2 arborists 5 hours including cleanup for each tree. They have become spectacular specimens by the removal of dead wood and rubbing branches.
