The quality of your leadership is shaped by the quality of your questions. Good questions open thinking. Poor questions close it down. Swap “Why did you…?” for “What was influencing your decision?”
Listening isn’t passive. It’s an active intervention. When people feel truly heard, defensiveness drops and clarity increases. Try this: summarise what you heard and ask, “What did I miss?”
Most leadership problems aren’t skill gaps. They’re thinking gaps. Coaching develops how people think, not just what they do. Before giving advice, ask: What’s your current thinking on this?

Design questions that unlock insight. Replace “Why haven’t you…?” with “What’s getting in the way right now?”
