The other thing is quality over quantity in testing. Playing a MTGO prelim or 8-man draft is way better than 10 Arena matches. Playing 3 games and reviewing them is better than playing 5. And focus on the optimal play, the optimal build, the optimal draft. Results are whatever.
Brutal honesty with yourself. I know that most of my ideas are wrong. I'll approach new match-ups suboptimally, and some of my logic will be flawed. But I also know I can improve on these things quickly. If I didn't have three weeks to prep for each PT, I'd be much worse.
