What are some lesser known Drupal contributed modules that are super useful? Recent up-and-comer solutions especially :) I would consider Tome or Gin to be in this category, even though the in-crowd may know them, they are not as widelt known as Webform let's say.

Drupal 9.3 will support experimental, stable, deprecated and obsolete to indicate lifecycle status of extensions. This allows to tell apart extensions coming in and going out cleanly and explicitly. It supports backwards compatibility and our incremental innovation process.

Info files can now contain a 'lifecycle' key to convey the stability of a module/theme ift.tt/3xvkzbY

Oh and on the topic of hooks, they really open up nice opportunities for third-party hooks with incredibly clean APIs. useDimensions is a great example: usedimensions.now.sh And there are a ton more: usehooks.com
