Rediscovering a ‘lost’ species
A rare insect species, Key’s Matchstick Grasshopper, was thought to be extinct in Victoria but has now been rediscovered by University of Melbourne researchers.
So we made an R package that no one asked for but everyone needs. Plz welcome colRoz: a colour palette based on Oz's wildlife & landscape. Here are some examples but send us some pretty Oz pics so we can make more palettes for you! github.com/jacintak/colRoz #Wildoz #rstats
Matchstick grasshoppers have their own colour palettes now
.@NicholasWuNZ & I are developing an Australian themed R colour palette package. For now, I made palettes for all the Warramaba grasshoppers of my PhD github.com/jacintak/colRoz #rstats

It's #TSBakeoff time again! So far my favourite entry is Dr Helen McCracken's (@ZoosVictoria) Key's Matchstick Grasshopper, which has only just been listed as a threatened species - the result of efforts by Ary Hoffman & @ecophys (@unimelb). 🦗 via @TSCommissioner

Many animals need places to hide to escape predators, drought, disease or fire. We need to work out where these places are and protect them. A tough gig because the refuges can be in a different place each time! Our new paper doi.org/10.1007/s10531…
