Robert Motherwell passed away #onthisday in 1991. He received his BA in philosophy from @StanfordUniversity in 1937 & seriously committed to art in 1941. He was an intellectual, largely self-taught artist that went on to found abstract expressionismism w/ Pollock, Rothko, et al.
