A great indicator of the success of the gay rights movement isn't how loud it was, but how many of those who opposed it changed their minds
As a movement it brought people together. It made people who disagreed feel sympathetic. It ostracized nobody. "We just want what you have."
I like to think that the latest incarnation of the gay rights movement was so successful because of the kindness of the people behind it
