The indifference towards the numerous journalists’ tweets highlighted in the last 24 hours tells you it’s not actually about the content and of course it never was - it’s about who’s behind it and more specifically, which team they support.

It is sectarian, its root is sectarian and its use is sectarian. Again, really weak. It speaks to the climate in the press that a Rangers supporting journalist has to caveat condemnation of a sectarian slur in this way. No such equivocation required for fans of other clubs.
Whether people think the use of the H word is right or wrong, it clearly riles and offends plenty of folk who do look upon it as being sectarian - so just don't use it rather than get in a lather over the semantics of it all. Be better, improve, everyone. Please.
Thread is disappointingly weak stuff from Andrew. The Record set out to destroy the personal lives of volunteers for a non-mainstream competitor, while at least nine Record employees are equally at fault. They may be his journalistic colleagues but it’s not a ‘both sides’ issue.
Don't wish to get drawn into what's going on here just now but I'm saddened by much of it. Questionable conduct almost everywhere but I don't like seeing folk having their careers ruined. Constructive, consistent approaches rather than more mud slinging going forward would help.
I’m just your average chap but if there’s a super brain line of “standards” reasoning that can simultaneously call for the punishment of fan media while at the same time excusing & indeed ignoring the EXACT SAME offences by “professional journalists” then I’m willing to hear it.
On that Mark - if that was ‘in the public interest’, can you tell me: A) if today’s revelations that police have been contacted over dozens of hate tweets by multiple employees of a venerable old National newspaper is also? and; B) when we can expect your report on it?
Today’s story in the @dailyrecord provokes predictable attacks on the journalist. Do people think it’s not in the public interest to report this? Some of the language used is discriminatory, inflammatory & includes derogatory terms for disabled people, as recently as last year.
The main problem in taking seriously those journalists who have spent the past few days slating people for their behaviour now presents itself neatly: their silence re colleagues’ sectarian, racist, anti-Semitic, homophobic tweets = hypocrisy or cowardice; neither are acceptable.
Someone shared this usage of the word 'Hun' last night and, I'll be honest, it was the first time I ever realised there's a racist element to the usage. marxists.org/archive/connol…

It really is amazing to see a campaign which was essentially “hey Rangers- ban an organisation with anyone who has a history of offensive language within tweets” turn round so devastatingly on the DR. Who I bet would still be welcome to become a media partner if they chose. Good.
