My Loan Charge Story
@ChargeStory
In 2011 legitimate tax planning helped my business create 30 new highly paid jobs and contribute £2.3m to the exchequer. Now HMRC want to bankrupt us. Crazy!

HMRC are pushing hard to settle over 10 years including personal guarantees. My strategy suggests waiting a while longer. What would you do? @loanchargeAPPG @LCAG_2019
Yes but how will those poor souls at HMRC survive without their bonus?
Letter to @RishiSunak: The requirement for a 2018/19 tax return to be submitted by 23/4 to get #selfemployed #COVID19 support contradicts Govt decision that people facing the #LoanCharge can submit by September. Due to this we need a #LoanChargeDelayNOW. loanchargeappg.co.uk/wp-content/upl…
I am a true blue Conservative Brexiteer. But today I voted @LibDems on my postal vote. Until the @Conservatives start talking about the #LoanCharge and HMRC reform, you will find lots of self employed folks can’t vote for you. @BorisJohnson @sajidjavid @loanchargeAPPG @LCAG_2019
The #loancharge and #IR35 are political miscalculations. The examples below and the #Rangers case are simply incompetence. No other organisation would be allowed to get away with it. Where is the scrutiny? Lives and livelihoods are being ruined. @loanchargeAPPG @theJeremyVine
HMRC issued Follower notices and APNs as a direct result of the #Rangers case. HMRC have recently told me that APNs are nothing to do with the #loancharge. So can I have my money back now please. With interest and penalties. @keithmgordon @loanchargeAPPG @LCAG_2019
Humbug! The government, HMT and HMRC are the enemy of small business, here in the UK. If you want a strong economy please treat us better. HMRC is a rogue and corrupt organisation, just look at what they did to Rangers. What chance do we have against them? Do you want our votes?
The Conservatives stand firmly behind the businesses and entrepreneurs who make our country great.

🤝 This morning the Chancellor @sajidjavid and I met with local businesses to hear about the issues they face and answer their questions. 🗳 Supporting small businesses is key to a strong economy and will remain one of my top priorities if I am re-elected.
What will happen with #LoanChargeReview if parliament is dissolved 25 days ahead of a Dec election? Presumably amendments to the legislation (if any) will require MPs to vote? Doesn’t leave much time before January tax returns are due @loanchargeAPPG @LCAG_2019 @keithmgordon
HMRC set up the Counter ‘Avoidance’ team and also the Declaration of Tax ‘Avoidance’ Scheme (DOTAS). No mentention of the word ‘Evasion’ in those. Avoidance is a legal right and always has been. HMRC/HMT are blurring the lines. @keithmgordon @LCAG_2019 @loanchargeAPPG

Disgraceful that HMRC reward their people for causing misery to innocent individuals and bankrupting good businesses. This outrageous practice must be stopped, lives and livelihoods are at stake. MPs need to be asking these question too. @loanchargeAPPG @DavidDavisMP @MPIainDS

Sir Amyas should also be asking whether bonus payments have been paid to HMRCs counter avoidance team as a result of settlements and APNs. I understand that it does pay bonuses. Surely this is wrong and incentivises aggressive behaviour. @keithmgordon @loanchargeAPPG @LCAG_2019
Some folks might prefer to do a deal (like Goldman Sachs) if permitted, and at least HMT would get something. The #loancharge and HMRCs uncompromising bullyboy tactics of ‘Max Tax’ at all costs will inevitably mean HMT get far less. Bankruptcy is NOT the solution @loanchargeAPPG
In case Jesse has actual (as opposed to convenient) amnesia, let me help @Jesse_Norman. Remember this?! theguardian.com/commentisfree/… How come Treasury Ministers are lobotomised on taking office & become spineless puppets of an out-of-control & untrustworthy HMRC?!
Oh dear
Extinction Rebellion activists failed in a plan to spray HM Treasury with thousands of litres of fake blood this morning after their high-pressure hose pipe became too much to handle. What is your response?
Still no news on the election of a new Chair of the Treasury Select Committee. Rules state it must only be a Conservative MP but the interim Chair is Labour. Coincidence whilst the #LoanChargeReview is conducted? Can't decide, good, bad or ugly? @loanchargeAPPG @DavidDavisMP
So now I’m thinking why has a Labour MP been given the interim role as chair of the Treasury S Committee during the #loancharge review when strictly only a Conservative MP can be elected. A new broom or more political games? Read the attached @MPIainDS @loanchargeAPPG @LCAG_2019
Jesse Norman is a scholar in philosophy. So how has he ended up at the treasury? Surely his ‘critical thinking’ philosophical training would lead him to conclude the #loancharge is retrospective. Unless he’s useless at philosophy too? @loanchargeAPPG @LCAG_2019 #JesseNormanMustGO
Very worrying for all Company Directors. So who decides if it’s ‘avoidance’ if HMRC blocks access to the courts? Avoidance WAS legal. Are the Institute of Directors going to comment on this, or ignore it like the #LoanChargeScandal @IoD_Press @The_IoD @loanchargeAPPG @LCAG_2019

Well said Sir. Shame our other law enforcement agency ‘HMRC’ don’t have the same ethos or training. Another #LoanCharge victim dead this weekend. Name another country where the tax authority is above the law and hounds people to death over retrospective legislation. @LCAG_2019
Another day to be incredibly proud of UK cops. Name another country where someone here doesn’t end up dead. We talk about it, but here they show: genuinely world leading.
Submitted my statement to #LoanChargeReview yesterday. Copied in @loanchargeAPPG and @LCAG_2019. Requested secretariat confirm receipt of my email. They haven’t. Anyone else submitted evidence, did you get a response?
With respect Roger. And maybe Gina will pay for a hatrick

If @thatginamiller can get a Judicial Review fast tracked and win (twice) proving the government acted unlawfully, surely there’s hope for us all? Sir Amyas will hopefully consider this too and treat us fairly. Today’s ruling strengthens our hand. @LCAG_2019 @loanchargeAPPG
Great letter. Although maybe we have all been duped and Sir Amyas has been drafted in by the current Chancellor to throw Osbourne and Hammond under the bus for ignoring his historic advice. Wishful thinking? No love lost between Boris and Hammond though @loanchargeAPPG @LCAG_2019
