Thank you all! If you have ideas for our next chat, message us, we’re looking for suggestions/moderators! #ChatOpenS #libraryOSS @Koha_US

Librarians that do training are well served if they learn some teaching basics like how to create usable learning objectives and how to write a lesson plan. #ChatOpenS GHW

The real difference, particularly with Koha, has been that if there is something that is an obstacle for staff, I can help them with it and work around it, where a commercial product is what it is - and you have to live with it for a long time. Q5 CB #ChatOpenS

In my experience, training is hard. It doesn't matter which software you use - open or proprietary. Teaching is a skill that most librarians don't learn. A lot of it is based on the idea "I'll just show people how I do it." #ChatOpenS GHW

Personally, I see no difference. If the product is well laid out and built, it's all the same. The big challenge is when people are working with two similar products side by side. Brains seize with that. Q5 CB #ChatOpenS

Fitting in one more - Q5: Is training for open source software more or less challenging than training for commercial products - and why? #ChatOpenS GHW

I've wanted to move us to more open source for the public, but staff are resistant. Microsoft is what they are used to. I'm hoping to get there someday, but unless it is a one to one product, it is a hard hurdle to overcome. CB #ChatOpenS

My training is primarily with staff and peers. It started out with public, but as the public became more knowledgeable, it shifted to one-on-one training through our Book-A-Librarian service. Q4 CB #ChatOpenS

I don't do a lot of harvesting of direct materials. I harvest ideas, but always try to make something original and unique - something specific to our needs. Even our jQuery modifications in Koha get personalized. Q3 CB #ChatOpenS

Currently, Kdenlive is my go-to video editor for editing our training videos. Very robust and easy to learn. The community is very active in keeping it up to date. CB #ChatOpenS

Q2: What kinds of open source software do you use to create training materials? #ChatOpenS

Q1: I also work with George to produce our Every-Other-Thursday training videos for koha-US and the Koha community. I'm using various online resources, but use Kdenlive for my video editing. CB #ChatOpenS

For our library, I maintain a running troubleshooting guide via Word for staff, which they can access where ever they are. Any time we have a reoccurring processes or issues that staff can handle on their own. CB #ChatOpenS

The content we put into Atlas, though, is all open and available and based on the stuff we also publish at …heast-kansas-library-system.github.io/nextsteps/ #ChatOpenS GHW

We also have a module based learning management system (that's not open source) using Atlas by Personify. #ChatOpenS GHW
