Trump & his team have no idea how long it takes to get paid by the BBC. He'll be long dead when his first-half money arrives & even then it'll probably go into Hillary Clinton's account due to ongoing payroll glitches caused by Martin's paternity leave - then t'll be half-term...

Thought I heard Barry Humphries' Sandy Stone on @BBCRadio3 just now, saying "Sorry about the Ashes." It turned out to be hubris from the leader of the Australian Chamber Orchestra. It's not over yet, mate.

The Graun says I'm going to be £190 worse off and The Telegraph says I'm £4 a year to the good. Experts with salaries - Cuh!

The high tide point at Sizewell. Beyond it the protective sea wall. The distance between the two is 22 yds. Jofra Archer can send a ball that distance in 0.4 of a second. The sea is slower. But which will come sooner: the inundation of Sizewell C or England winning the Ashes?

Finally. Someone says 'Mists and mellow fruitfulness' live on R4. The fearless embargo-buster? Giles Brandreth on Broadcasting House

The Daily Telegraph's survey of Best London Boroughs ranks Camden 23rd for 'good vibes', which is 21 places behind Bromley. The coolest borough of all vibes-wise? Richmond-upon-Thames.

Congratulations to Les Mis on its 40th anno. An astonishing achievement, especially as (according to my diary for 30.9.85) everything about it was 'dreadful apart from Alan Armstrong'. Also the barricade got stuck (it was an early preview) which made the evening 'interminable'.👏

I've not heard a single ironically inflected 'Mists and mellow fruitfulness' on @BBCRadio3 or @BBCRadio4 this autumn. Has Keats been dropped for left-wing bias?

I've watched about 25 Hamlets. The current production at the National is the best I've seen. The reviews have been sniffy - I think because it has some very funny moments. Reviewers hate it when the classics get laughs; they think it's cheap or easy. It isn't. Do go if you can.

All the new cycle lanes have hugely improved the biking experience in central London, except in the morning and evening rush hours when it feels like all the most furious drivers have made a last-minute decision to go by bike instead.
