Couldn’t agree more! Being a generalist gave me range; UI, brand, merch... but illustration and micro animation became my spike. Now I’m narrowing even further: technical illustration for technical teams. The more I focus, the sharper the work gets.
Every generalist must spike in a specific function. You can't be moderate accross board. Something must still make you stand out. Without an axis of depth, you risk belnding into medicority.
