Farther up the hill was the stadium & well worth the climb. The museum held more treasures, eg the two kouroi, Cleobis and Biton, who you can read about in Herodotus 1.31, and the extra-large sphinx which was much bigger than I realised. Huge thanks to #HelleneSchoolTravel!
The highlights of the site included the Athenian Treasury, the serpent column and the temple of Apollo. There was a short climb to the theatre, which had a capacity of 5000 spectators: it was much smaller than the theatres we visited in Epidaurus and Sparta.
Monday in Delphi. I have always wanted to stay overnight in Delphi and I couldn't get enough of the amazing view over the valley from our balcony. We arrived at the Delphi site as it opened at 8am on a perfect morning.
For one day I believed the myth! Thanks again to the organisational expertise of @KerryLPhelan, Sarah Thomason and #HelleneSchoolTravel. 🙏🙏🙏👏👏👏👍👍👍💕
The Treasury of Atreus brought tears to our eyes & the view from the ruins of the palace was stunning. We calculated the location of Agamemnon's bathroom, visited the tombs of Clytemnestra and Aegisthus. 💕🙏
@ClassicsAcademy 💕🙏 Another day to remember: Sunday we visited Epidaurus, Nafplio & Mycenae. A sacrifice of (rubber) chickens in the sanctuary of Asclepius & some of us climbed all the way to the cheap seats in the theatre! Mycenae was as wonderful as we hoped.
…of Helen and Menelaus (at least, that's what I want to believe!). Delicious lunch at the recommendation of our bus driver Vassilly. Thanks to @KerryLPhelan , Sarah and all at #HelleneSchoolTravel for another great day!💕👏👍🙏
