It’s the year 2023. The IPCC has stated that it is unequivocal that humans are causing global warming. So why do some event organizers still invite science deniers on stage to spread their misinformation about #climatechange?
Cities are warmer then the surrounding areas. But this so-called Urban Heat Island effect has a negligible impact on our estimate of global (!) warming, despite claims to the contrary by a group of well-known contrarians. /1
Here are rural&urban results(raw=green). Urban/rural status determined by satellite night imagery. Even if some stations are misclassified, rural stations on average will have much less UHI than urban. If UHI is a real factor, you should be able to tell rural from urban. Can you?
What every climate scientist will tell you: Record-breaking extreme weather events of 2023 are expected at this level of warming. The impacts on people are more severe than expected. To keep things from getting worse, we need to stop burning fossil fuels & speed up adaptation.
Global CO2 emissions are flattening. Thats good news, and reflects real progress in the energy transition. But a flattening of emissions just means the world will continue to warm at its current rate, rather than accelerating. To stop warming, we need to get emissions to zero.
Global warming is projected to substantially increase the mortality burden attributable to non-optimal temperature. Higher global temperatures only lead to minor decreases in cold-related mortality which do not offset increases in heat-related mortality. papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cf…

🌏Earth is a complex system.🌐 Most people think of global warming as increasing Global Mean Surface Temperatures (GMST), as used for climate targets. This makes sense, because we live on the surface. But the vast majority of the additional heat is stored in the ocean depths:
