One of the most ominous risks for Europe is that of a major change in Atlantic ocean currents. Recent science suggests it has been greatly underestimated in the past -including by me, having worked on it for over 30 years. Here my half-hour presentation in Vilnius a week ago!

High resolution images from satellite and from eddy-resolving ocean circulation models point to an ongoing decline of the Atlantic overturning circulation, a key ocean current for our climate. Read more about it in my new blog article. 🌊 realclimate.org/index.php/arch…

Rainfall intensity is increasing because the atmosphere holds more moisture as the planet heats. These kind of scenes will occur in completely unexpected places.

Great interview of climate scientist Mike Mann and virologist Peter Hotez on the war on science by special interest groups. My colleague Mann endured vicious attacks after his pioneering (and solidly confirmed) ‘hockey stick’ curve of #globalwarming. pbs.org/newshour/show/…

Oh my. Notice how these catastrophic flood videos are now happening daily? Surely it’s never “just” climate change and these floods have occurred before. But a warmer climate does make them more frequent and fierce.

The resort town of Elenite, Bulgaria over the last 48 hours. A heating atmosphere holds more moisture which means rainfall intensity is increasing across the planet. Watch David Attenborough’s breaking boundaries on Netflix. We are in a planetary emergency.

Excellent, well-informed new podcast! Like a ship entering a storm, we’re now entering the overshoot - a world above 1.5 degrees C #globalwarming. This requires a whole new mindset, explored by Laurie Laybourn.
