Comparing these images adds a lot of context (the beginning vs. the end). The way his hair is tied back (on the right) makes him look more prepared for battle or a fight, along with the tighter fit of his clothes, his stance, expression, etc. Everything is more harsh.

One of the many things I like about Galadriel is that she's a flawed protagonist. You can see that she's not making the best decisions even as she attempts to do what she thinks is the right thing; she only grows and learns after it (quite literally) blows up in front of her.
